Hear Clearly Again
Without Leaving Home

Blocked ears are one of the most common signs of excess ear wax buildup. When wax accumulates and hardens in the ear canal, it can cause a feeling of fullness, muffled hearing, tinnitus (ringing), and even mild dizziness. This is particularly common in older adults and anyone who uses cotton buds, which can push wax deeper into the canal. If you're experiencing blocked ears in Bury, Bolton, or anywhere across Greater Manchester, our home visit service can provide fast, professional relief.

Microsuction ear wax removal is a widely used procedure performed under direct magnified visual guidance using professional loupes, an otoscope and fine sterile suction equipment — not a microscope. Unlike syringing or irrigation, microsuction doesn't use water, which may make it preferable for many patients. However, it is not automatically suitable for everyone: patients with a perforated eardrum or previous ear surgery need individual assessment, and suitability is always confirmed before treatment. It's available through our home visit service across Greater Manchester.

At Greater Manchester Ear Care, we use professional magnification loupes, otoscopy equipment and a specialist microsuction system to examine the ear canal and carefully remove ear wax under direct visual guidance.

Yes, microsuction is safe when performed by an NHS-trained healthcare professional. Our practitioner uses magnification and an otoscope to clearly visualise the ear canal throughout the procedure, ensuring precise and gentle removal of wax using professional suction equipment. Single-use sterile equipment is used for every patient, and we conduct a thorough ear health assessment before any treatment. Microsuction is not suitable for every patient, though — for example, some cases involving a perforated eardrum or previous ear surgery may need additional care or onward referral, and we will always advise if treatment is not appropriate for you. As an NHS-trained healthcare professional with full insurance and DBS clearance, your safety is our priority. We happily serve patients across Bury, Bolton, Manchester, and all surrounding areas.

Applying olive oil before microsuction can be helpful, especially if your ears haven't been professionally cleaned in a while. A few drops of olive oil (or sodium bicarbonate drops) 3-5 days before your appointment can soften stubborn wax, making it easier to remove. However, avoid putting oil in if you suspect an ear infection, have active ear pain, or think your eardrum may be perforated. If you're unsure, just give us a call before your ear wax removal appointment in Bury or Bolton and we'll advise you.

Yes, hearing loss caused by wax is very common. Impacted ear wax can completely block the ear canal, reducing hearing significantly — sometimes overnight. The good news is that this type of hearing loss is usually temporary and reversible once the wax is professionally removed. Many of our patients in Bury, Bolton, and across Greater Manchester are surprised by how much their hearing improves after just one session. If you're struggling to hear, don't ignore it — book a home visit today.

Tinnitus and ear wax are closely linked. While tinnitus (ringing, buzzing, or whooshing sounds in the ears) has many causes, impacted ear wax is one of the most common and reversible triggers. When wax presses against the eardrum or blocks sound transmission, it can amplify internal sounds and create tinnitus-like symptoms. Removing the wax often provides relief. If you're experiencing tinnitus and suspect ear wax may be the cause, we offer assessments across Greater Manchester including Bury, Bolton, and surrounding areas.

Home visit ear wax removal brings professional microsuction directly to your doorstep. Instead of travelling to a clinic — which can be difficult if you have mobility issues, young children, or a busy schedule — our NHS-trained healthcare professional comes to you. We serve patients across Greater Manchester, including Bury, Bolton, Ramsbottom, Tottington, Bury Old Road, Heaton, Harwood, and all surrounding areas. All you need is a quiet room and a comfortable chair.

Most ear wax removal appointments take between 30-45 minutes for both ears. The actual microsuction procedure is usually quick — often just 10-15 minutes per ear. The extra time is spent on a thorough ear health assessment, explaining findings, and providing aftercare advice. We never rush, and your comfort is paramount throughout. Appointments for patients in Bury, Bolton, and across Greater Manchester are available at a time that suits you, including evenings and weekends.
